the firebird shooting star exploding target is 65mm in diameter and is an exciting enhancement to clay pigeon shooting. on impact from a shotgun pellet, the target ignites in order to reflect a direct hit producing a pyrotechnic reaction with white smoke and loud bang. the reaction is effective making it fun for spectators too.just attach it to the underside of a standard clay using the double-sided high tack tape. it is shallow enough to allow clays to stack in an automatic trap as they would normally. it is most effective when shot as a driven or crossing bird as the firebird target will only ignite if you actually hit it! don’t worry if it falls to the ground un-hit – it will not explode and can be reused. please be aware that sparks may cause fire. for more information read our safety guidelines as set out on the msds found at the bottom of the page.

Description of Device and Effect Produced 
A 40mm or 65mm diameter metal container containing a pyrotechnic composition and covered with a cardboard disc. Initiation is by means of a high velocity projectile striking the target face e.g. Air Rifle Pellet, Shotgun Pellet or Bullet from a Rim Fire or Centre Fire Round. When initiated the device produces a pyrotechnic effect indicating a “hit”.

Method of Operation 
1. Remove required devices from packaging and reseal using packing tape.
2. Secure inside a clay pigeon using the double sided tape affixed the back surface of the device so that the coloured disc is visible. OR Secure inside a target holder (magplate) so that the coloured disc is visible. Secure the target holder using the screws to a solid surface. 
3. Ensure all persons have retired to a distance of at least 10 metres. 
4. For Clay Pigeons launch the clay pigeon as a crossing, driven, battue, rabbit or teal target such that the face of the target is always toward the shooter. These devices will not function in a “going away” Target. 
5. Shoot target. 

General Safety Instructions

1. DO NOT STAPLE, PENETRATE OR STRIKE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH
2. Do not smoke when handling article. 
3. Keep away from naked flame. 
4. Do not use near flammable materials. 
5. Take care to ensure that the hot particles do not cause injury to persons or livestock or damage to items/equipment/floors etc. If in doubt test beforehand.
6. Do not attempt to dismantle or modify these pyrotechnics in any way or use them in any manner other than that for which they have been designed. 
7. Do not attempt to pick up used devices immediately after functioning as they may still be hot.
8. Extreme caution to be exercised when using in the vicinity of crops, stubble fields or other flammable substances as sparks may cause fire.

Unshot and Missed Targets
Efforts should be made to recover any missed or unshot targets at the end of any shooting session especially when used on grazing land. Should any target that is unshot or missed, be recovered it can either be reused or replaced in the supply storage container.  Should it be decided any unshot or unused targets should be disposed please follow the disposal instructions. 

Storage
• Always store in the packaging the devices are supplied in. Reseal packaging after opening. 
• Store in a cool dry area away from flammable materials
• Keep away from sources of heat and direct sunlight.
• Do not store near any source of a naked flame. 
• A storage license may be required. 
• Do not store in a damp environment. 

Disposal 
To dispose of unused or missed targets submerge the items for disposal in a large bucket of water.  This will make the targets inert and they can be disposed in a normal manner.
